THE MEDICINAL VALUE OF ONION





Onion is one legume that is hated by most people because of the smell it leaves on the breathe of people after consumption when eaten raw, as smelly as it is, it is very effective in the treatment of some diseases.

 Reserchers have found out that Onions have a unique combination of three families of compounds that are believed to have salutary effects on human health - fructans, flavonoids and organosulfur compounds. Fructans are small carbohydrate molecules that help maintain gastrointestinal health by sustaining beneficial bacteria.


The Igbo name for Onion is Yabase, the Yoruba call it Alubosa and the hausa call it Albasa while it's scientfic name is ALLIUM CEPA.

The parts of the onion that are of medicinal value are the BULB and the LEAVES.


USES OF ONION

1. HYPERTENSION:  For the treatment of hypertension grind or blend 5 bulbs of onion mix with one bottle of honey. Take 4 dessert spoons twice daily.

2.  HEADACHE:  For a nagging headache crush 1 bulb, press out the juice and rub on the forehead.

3.  LOSS OF MEMORY: Chew (1/2) half a bulb every morning and night.

4.  INSOMNIA:  Cant sleep at night? Chew 1 bulb every night, very effective.

5.  DIABETES: Chew 1 bulb every morning and night.

6. COUGH OR COLD: Extract the juice mix with honey and take 2 desset spoons twice daily
